[R129 SL] very rough running

1995 sl500 running very very rough - no power - seems to be skipping.
checked distributor caps & rotors - some corrosion
on one cap the plastic ring that sits behind the points was partially broken
up - about half of it is shattered
any help will be greatly appreciated
