[R129 SL] Noise when not in gear.

Hi Guys,
 
I have recently had my automatic gearbox rebuilt due to me sometimes losing
forward and reverse drive, I took it to a gearbox specialist and upon
removing the gearbox the recommended that I also have the Torque converter
replaced and I agreed to have it replaced,
I have had it back a few days now and I am hearing a spinning noise when the
car is in neutral or park, as soon at I select drive or any other gear  the
sound completely goes, I took it back to the garage and mechanic said that
it was quite normal for this to sound to be present and that the amount of
sound from the gearbox was acceptable, I don't know if I am being to fussy
about the sound from the gearbox,  I would describe the sound like a whine
or a faint bearing noise possibly from the Torque converter but I am not
sure, I wonder if any of you guys have experienced this sound from your
cars.
My car is a R129 1991 500SL RHD
