Carl: Since every car came with a hardtop from the factory, I'd be rather 
suspect of an SL sold without a hardtop . . .to my knowledge, they're 
interchangeable although I've read on the forums of some slight adjustments for proper 
fit from early years to late models.
  E-Bay has tops on a fairly regular basis-- with the occasional panoramic 
model carrying the requisite price tag.
  In short- unless there's a solid, valid reason to explain the missing 
hardtop - - I'd respectfully suggest you keep looking.
