please assist me in the conclusion of a 490mm conundrum..........

i own a linhof carl zeiss sonnar 250mm F5.6 whose shutter works and as far
as i can make out produces a very sharp image. its in top condition. the
problem is its very big and i walk around with huge amounts of equipment
already.

i have been offered a rodenstock 240mm F5.6 sironar copal no. 3 for a song.

do i sell the beast to a collector and buy the more modern lens. what are
the attributes of the rodenstock? coverage, shutter quality etc?

i use a technika 4 by 5 mark IV and have another which i need to jettison
as well as a 5 by 7 which i need to sell. can anyone suggest a suitable forum?

will the rodenstock be accomodated by the a technika lensboard, it has a
large girth?

i also want to do some maintainance on my hasselbald 500 C body. pointers
to a good user group please?

many thanks

Hello Dave,

Are you sure that the Sironar 240mm is that much smaller than the Zeisss
Sonnar? The copal 3 is a large shutter.

The Copal shutters are generally excellent - although some would claim that
they are not as well made as the modern Compur or Prontor shutters.

The Copal 3 would probably be a tight fit on the Technika lens board - the
details of the Copal shutter dimensions are available from the Schneider
site and probably elsewhere - take a look in the Links section of the
f32.net site at http://www.f32.net/links.html

The image circle of the 240mm Sironar is 298mm and the latest 240mm Sironar
N has an image circle of 350mm.

There are few places to consider selling your unwanted gear - EBay is one
and you may also want to consider placing free small ads at, for
example, http://www.cocam.co.uk/cgi-local/classifieds/classifieds.cgi

What is the 5x7 camera that you have for sale?

Cheers,
