Hi Cathy and All Listers,
I recently took a 'to dye for' class at the Mannings studio in PA. Missy
Burns was the instructor (and a former co-owner of Wool in the Woods, a hand
dyeing yarn business). She taught us to use Cushing acid dyes which she
found to be safest out of all powdered chemical dyes. We mixed up colors in
warm water, placed the yarn in glass casserole dishes (never to be used for
food) and into a microwave (also now designated for dyeing only) after
about 20 min the job was done and lovely. We prepped the yarn by soaking in
water + vinegar as the dye mordant.

I have begun over dyeing jacob wool and so far am delighted. Am
experimenting with one color variation by playing with amount of same yarn
on different patches of yarn I am tickled with results (but one batch has
yet to be turned into socks and therefore not yet husband tested!)
