[Jacob-list] Lamb Constipation

Congratulations on two pretty lambs! I read the same thing in a book about the castor oil and spent the next few days fighting a back case of diarrhea. Sometimes I get lambs with that hot glue/carmel taffy (good description). If I need to, I just put a warm, soapy rag on it for a bit and clip it off. It never seems to last more than a day or two. I think I'd start by trying something gentler than castor oil and definitely less than 1 tbs to start. I like to use a little olive oil if anything is needed. The vet told me that olive oil may not be the best for constipation because it's digestible, but unless there's something life threatening going, I like to try something mild to start with. And I think olive oil is good for just about anything :-) (it got the fish hook all the way through my cat with no ill effects) Your lambs aren't actually constipated, they just need a little softener, I think.

Both lamb have very thick poop.. its like a cross between hot glue
and carmel taffy. Im keeping their bumms wiped as it turns to
concrete quickly.. I saw Mom trying to clean it off.. but to no
avail......I read in a book to use 1 TBS of Castor Oil... Any input
on this? Im going to put some desitin on their butts today, and see
if that helps with the stick factor of the poop.....
