>From central NYS: we have found that one of the more useful tools to us when we were new flock owners was a "Pipestone Sheep Management Wheel." It is like a circuclar slide rule with all kinds of sheep management information on it, such as worming, flushing, breeding, vaccinations shearing, etc. etc. You can set the dial to any date for breeding, for example, and from that date, see when to expect lambs, or whatever else you are interested in. You can also select an expected birth date, which for us here is about March 17th, based on usual weather, and work backward to immediately see when to put the ram(s) in with your various breeding groups (only one ram per group, of course...). This was developed by the Pipestone Lamb and Wool Program, Minnesota West Community and Technical College, PO Box 250, Pipestone, MN 56164 (507) 825-6806. We think we got it from Premier, www.premier1supplies.com/detail.php?prod_id=110 at cat_id=16 If the link doesn't work, go to their website and look under sheep/equipment/books/sheep mangement wheel. It is $11.00.

Hope this helps!

Subject: [Jacob-list] A couple of questions

Greetings all!

I have a couple of "newbie" questions:

1. What time of year do you turn your ram in with your ewes?

2. What time of year do you shear?

3. Does anyone have a contract that I could copy for leasing out a ram? Any ideas on what to include in the contract?

Thanks in advance! Tammy
