Talked to a breeder that raises Shetland and icelandic and she said that
Jacob sheep cannot be together with any other breed unless they are raised
together -they Jacob sheep is a bully, and butts and eats all the food of the
other sheep and they are not good with other animals from her personal experience
with two jacobs that she had and they cause a Shetland Ewe to miscarriage.
Can anyone enlightened me please?
Hi Francis,
I agree with the other breeders who have responded to your question. We've
been raising Jacob and Navajo-Churro sheep successfully together for last 13
years. Like the Shetland and Icelandic ewes, Navajo-Churro ewes can be
either horned or polled and in our flock the majority of our ewes are polled. Not
having horns hasn't stopped the N-C ewes from finding a place to eat at the
feeders with the Jacob ewes. Other then at breeding times our Jacob and N-C
ewes live together, and our Jacob and N-C rams live together in about as much
harmony as you're ever going to find in a large flock of sheep (or goats, or
cattle, or horses, etc.).
