When I tag lambs, I dip them in the same solution I
used when my daughter had her ears pierced. It was an
antiseptic non-sting solution we bought at the jewelry
store. I do rotate the tags every couple of days, and
"squish" on more solution with a cotton ball (on each
side of tag).

I've had Jacobs rip their ears getting caught in
fencing. They do heal in time and don't seem to bother
the sheep.
