Gary:
Your ram has a severe case of "laufeinschlag", and if you watch closely,
he also probably concurrently is suffering from "flehman", which is
curling of the upper lip. He'll be fine, fit as a fiddle, although he
will need to be with the girls for a while for complete recovery. In the
sheep world girls absolutely adore guys who bare their teeth, smell like
the barnyard, and bump them suggestively with a straightened front leg -
and your ewe in typical female fashion is simply being coy and playing
hard to get.....which means he will only redouble his efforts, working
tirelessly to prove his "love" for her.
All these maneuverings as part of the wooing process seem rather strange
to us humans - but, on the other hand, mankind has been known to engage
in some pretty strange behavior too.
We also "battened down the hatches" today in preparation for Isabelle --
here in southeast PA we are being told to expect lots of rain and winds
up to 65 mph.
