[Jacob-list] breeding lambs

I've also noticed that many give lambs extra feed or really good hay when breeding or in general. All my sheep get grass and so so hay, once the grass is gone. The lambs do not grow fast. This is fine with me. It is far easier to transport small lambs to fairs than larger ones, especially when I'm carrying them from truck to pen. All the sheep get the teeniest bit of grain once breeding begins, and until just before lambing, when their portion is increased to about l/4-l/2 cup per day per sheep, which continues until the lambs are about 2 months old, and then decreases by the time the lambs are 3 months old. The lambs are not creep fed. I would guess that creep fed, extra good hay and alfalfa fed lambs are bigger and more able to have lambs. My April born lambs aren't yet 50 pounds, and many are under 40 pounds.
