Hello all,
It's been awhile since we've posted, but we're still here on the farm.
We have a pregnant ewe that came down with hypocalcemia. Our vets , as
many around don't have that much experience with sheep, but they did call
University of Tennessee for advice. We are treated her with an i.v. solution
with calcium in it, also feeding an oral calcium gel.
We are wondering what the prognosis will be, has anyone ever successfully
treated a pregnant ewe for this and had her to go into labor and deliver and
all go well, or is the future not so good for us.
Also, this condition is delaying her delivery, so we are debating about
inducing her labor on Monday and hoping for the best. Has anyone been through
this and can give us some advice. I'm not looking forward to bottle feeding
twin lambs in the winter, but I"ve done it before.
Please let us know any information you have.
Thanks,
Danny and Tina Bowman
