Hi,
Sheep can and do get CAE.
I am finally recovering and almost back to the normal routines around here
after the big "wild west" trip. The boys and I got to visit quite a number
of beautiful flocks of Jacob sheep from GA, TX, MO, CO, WI, NJ this time.
They were more interested in the day we spent being simply tourists at Mt
Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument, Mammoth dig, and Ft Laramie. Pictures are
starting to come back, and we have some nice ones for the walls this time.
Linda---the pictures Ian took in GA were much as I was fearing-----there
might be ONE that is decent.
Diane and Janine's place was quite a dream for a shepherd. They have such
an easy-to-work facility that it made me drool. They also use their Border
Collies right alongside their 6 Pyrs----this is the first time I have seen
herding and working dogs used at the same point in time. There were no
problems between them.
Our farm is now officially enrolled in the voluntary scrapie eradication
program in NC. Our status date will change off and on as we get new ewes,
but there is an enrollment date that sticks with the place. Program is
simple and essentially cost-nominal. It will cost me an Allflex tagger and
the tags for my sheep ears. Tags are less than $1./each.
I am working up getting a Jacob meeting together in NC this fall, be it at
SAFF (have been trying without success to get ahold of Lisa Mackey to get a
contact if anybody knows of a trick---she might be out of town??) or
elsewhere.
