Shelly,  Alpine goats (and other Swiss breeds) can be high strung and bossy.  
They can also be pretty hard on fences.  Although there are exceptions in all 
breeds, Nubian goats are usually gentler and get along better with other 
animals.  Two diseases of goats that would not be apparent,  but are serious 
and can be fatal, are Caprine Arthritic Encephalitis and corynebacterium 
pyogenes.  A vet can detect these, and both are contageous to other goats.  
CAE is a goat disease, and I don't know if sheep can get c.p.    Robin
