Whoo Ewie,
You seem to have quieted the ideologues.
So much for the creditability of Mssrs Ford and Eisenstadt on this subject.
Gerry,
I was ashamed of going on and on on this subject. I was glad to
hear from Ewie. I read the article he linked to, I alway enjoy
reading Cockburn but this was written by someone else. It
didnt claim anything so surprising that I thought I should run
my mouth some more.
Seriously, Gerry, what did I overlook in this article?
I am quieted out of excessively hearing the sound of
my own voice.
By the way, this morning's Ha'aretz reported that the
3d stage of the lifting rocket failed and a new Israeli
spy satellite fell into the sea. Ha'aretz said the
satellite is mostly for surveilling Iran. Apparently they
take the possibility of Iranian home-built nuclear
warheads on North Korea designed rockets coming
their way very seriously.
I think I have some sense of how the Israelis reason
(I have been following the scene there very closely all
my life). I think they reason that when push comes to
shove they will have to pull their own chestnuts out
of the fire. When push comes to shove, Uncle Sammy
ain't gonna do the job for them. This was true in 1967
which war they won with FRENCH jets. US did not start
arming Israel until after '67. In 1981 they took out the
Osiris reactor in Baghdad. All on their own. And were
roundly condemned for doing so. Those horrid Israelis!
In 1973, the Soviet Union had armed Egypt and Syria
to the teeth with the latest surface to air rockets to
shoot down Israeli planes and anti-tank rockets to
destroy Israeli tanks. The 1973 war was a close call and
if it were not for the massive American airlift resupply,
they may have lost that one. This was during the Cold
War. The US was happy to have Israel beat the Arabs
with American built weaponry and give the Soviet
Union a bloody nose.
By the way, by 1973 Israel had nuclear bombs,
bombers and rockets. Guess where they were
targeted on? I'll bet YOU don't know. I didn't know
either till I read it somewhere later on and it
surprised me.
Nowadays, there is no Soviet Union arsenal in
the hands of the Arabs. If the Israeli military is
not focused on Iran right now, they should be
fired and replaced. Iran (=the present government
of Iran - mullahs) hate the existence of Israel and
if they ever have the weapons and feel jihadi and
suicidal, they might just press the button.
If Israeli intelligence doesnt focus real hard on
this possibility, they are guilty of malfeasance of
office. If they determine that there actually are
nuclear rockets pointed their way in place in
Iran, I wouldn't be surprised if they go ahead
and take them out. But Uncle Sammy aint gonna
do it for them. That they know. That's why they
are bent on lofting THEIR spy satellite.
In this context, I can well imagine that the Israeli
embassy/Mossad office in Washington, DC wants
to know what the Bushies are up to vis-a-vis Iran.
If they didn't make an effort to know, they should
be fired.
As for Israel (=the present government of Israel)
calling up Bush on the phone and telling Bush
what to do or not do, dream on.
