**** Is World War II Still ‘The Good War?’ <http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/29/books/review/adam-kirsch-on-new-books-about-world-war-ii.html?_r=1&partner=rss&emc=rss>
Adam Kirsch, New York Times

The passage of time doesn’t just turn life into history; it also changes the contours of history itself. Over the last several years, historians, philosophers and others have begun to think about the Second World War in challenging and sometimes disturbing new ways, reflecting the growing distance between the country that fought the war and the country that remembers it.

**** OooOooooOooh I've Apologized <http://singaporedesk.blogspot.com/2011/05/oooooooooooh-ive-apologized.html>
Singapore Notes

His first attempt at spin control was to claim that it was a joke, which the reporter failed to grasp. 3 hours later, Lim blames the reporter for quoting him out of context "when they do not report the whole thing".

The massive outcry from cyberspace must have been a rude reminder for Lim - if you can't stand the flames, better get out of the kitchen pronto. And quickly write a "clarification" note on his Facebook on 27 May. No apology was made to the reporter accused of lacking a sense of humour and misquoting him out of context.

Politicians from both sides are trying out new tactics to win over the sophisticated young generation.

And with elitism increasingly regarded as a dirty word on many lips, politicians who avoid public transport or interacting with common folk are a disadvantaged lot.

Andrew Loh, Yahoo!

The results of the recent elections and the PM's speech indicate that Singaporeans now want a more level playing field in the political arena. The PM himself has pledged that a fair and just society is his goal, going forward.

Perhaps it is time our elected leader puts his money where his mouth is and begin to level the political playing field — starting with the GROs.

**** PAP Needs A Public Communications SWAT Team <http://atans1.wordpress.com/2011/05/28/pap-needs-a-public-communications-swat-team/>
Thoughts Of A Cynical Investor

If the PM’s dad is not off-limits to a public rebuke, why should Dr Lim Wee Kiak? One stupid remark can ruin the PM’s strategy, given that the PAP has great difficulty putting its side of any story across in the new media, a place where it has a tiny presence and few friends or allies.
