iTunes 10.2.1 allows you to sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to iOS 4.3 and provides improved Home Sharing, the service that allows you to browse and play media from your home computer's iTunes library.

**** SAS Institute Pushes Business Intelligence To Apple's iPad, iPhones <http://www.macworld.com/article/158430/2011/03/sas_business_intelligence.html#lsrc.rss_main>
Chris Kanaracus, IDG News Service

SAS Institute is teaming up with mobile BI (business intelligence) vendor Mellmo to bring analytic applications to Apple’s iPhone and iPad, the companies announced Tuesday. The move further cements Apple’s devices as must-hit targets for enterprise software vendors, especially for BI. It also follows deals Mellmo has struck with IBM, SAP, Salesforce.com, Microsoft and Oracle. The SAS integration, which also requires SAS Enterprise BI Server, is set to be released early next month.

**** Used iPads Selling Quickly Online <http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/03/07/first-generation-ipad-reselling-quickly-online/>
Nick Bilton, New York Times

On a number of shopping Web sites, people are clamoring to buy the first generation iPad, and in the process, breaking resale records for electronics.

**** MacBook Pro Vs. MacBook Air Vs. White MacBook: Which 13-inch Apple Laptop Should You Buy? <http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-20039450-1.html>
Scott Stein, CNET

Overall, you could make a strong case out of these results that the $1,199 MacBook Pro would offer the best balance of performance, affordability, and features out of the current 13-inch MacBooks. However, it's no accident that Apple has cleverly priced all these configurations to be tempting--a savings or expenditure of a few hundred dollars here and there can be appealing to different shoppers for different reasons.

**** Booting To And Managing Verbose Mode In OS X <http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20040778-263.html>
Topher Kessler, CNET

While most people may not need to see what is happening every time the system starts up, if your system takes a while to load or has other problems at boot such as crashing or hanging, then seeing where this is happening can help. At other times it may be useful to check that certain items have loaded, especially if you have a custom or specialized hardware setup.

Craig Hockenberry, Furbo.org

It’s no secret that the Mac App Store is a terrific new distribution channel for developers. Apple also provides plenty of documentation on how to prepare your app for submission.

Unfortunately, there’s not much information on how to create a product that can also be distributed through more traditional channels, such as your own product website. This guide will help you update your Xcode projects to make it as simple as possible to create products for both channels simultaneously.

The voices of ordinary working people in the US once had their own media. But writing classes can reinvent that empowerment.

**** Robots Say The Damnedest Things <http://www.gq.com/news-politics/big-issues/201103/robots-say-the-damnedest-things>
Jon Ronson, GQ

I've been hearing that there are a handful of humanoid robots scattered across North America who have learned how to have eloquent conversations with humans. They listen attentively and answer thoughtfully. One or two have even attained a degree of consciousness, say some AI aficionados, and are on the cusp of bursting into life. If true, this would be humanity's greatest achievement ever, so I've approached the robots for interviews. Conversations with robots! I've no doubt the experience is going to be off the scale in terms of profundity.

"Are you happy?" I ask Zeno again.

**** Three-way Fights Good For Voters <http://www.todayonline.com/Voices/EDC110309-0000152/Three-way-fights-good-for-voters>
Aloysius Foo, Today

In a ward contested by three or four parties, the voter has a wider range of choices such that he can cast his ballot for the party (and its ideology) he most prefers. A straight duel between two parties denies him this wider choice.

**** Explain Role Of NTUC In Politics <http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Story/STIStory_642915.html>
Ang Miah Boon, Straits Times

In recent announcements of potential candidates for the People's Action Party (PAP), I read that civil servants resigned their posts to join the NTUC.

How is NTUC able to absorb these people? In any corporation, positions are based on needs. Were the positions specially created for these candidates?

In fact, it may well be unhealthy for Parliament to be overwhelmed by unionists. My perception is that there are too many MPs from NTUC in Parliament now and there may well be even more.

**** Give Each Male Citizen A Firm Enlistment Date <http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/OnlineStory/STIStory_642820.html>
Tan Kin Lian, Straits Times

Any administrative error or difficulty in arranging the enlistment date should not be at the expense of the citizen.

Male citizens have to spend two years of their time in national service. This is already a heavy burden when they have to compete for jobs against foreigners and female citizens. They should not have to waste more time in waiting for the enlistment.

Former Malaysian premier Mahathir Mohamad said in a book published Tuesday that Singapore's Lee Kuan Yew was unhappy with his "municipal role" at the helm of the city-state, and harboured ambitions to lead Malaysia.

In his latest broadside against Singapore's founding father, Mahathir, Malaysian premier from 1981 to 2003, said his bitter rival had wanted to take over Malaysia when the island-state was part of the Malaysian federation.

**** Pride, Prejudice And Politics: Hard Truths <http://singaporekopitok.blogspot.com/2011/03/pride-prejudice-and-politics-hard.html>
Singapore Kopi Tok

MM Lee's explanation of being corrected which was short of an apology might have harden sentiments instead among those who needed more excuses to dislike the statesman and his party. The magnanimous however would accept whatever MM Lee had mumbled reluctantly to rebuild bridges with the Malay-Muslim community. Which sentiment would dominate is unclear. What is clear is that if MM Lee had appeared more contrite and reined in his pride further, he and the PAP might have clawed back more credibility with the Malay-Muslim community. That community might forgive, but not forget since the wound is still fresh. That's another hard truth.

**** Time To Move On From MM Lee’s Comments <http://sg.yfittopostblog.com/2011/03/09/time-to-move-on-from-mm-lees-comments/>
Faris, Yahoo!

Thus, the good thing which came out is the continuous need for engagements within the various communities and inter-faiths dialogues to ensure discourse along racial and religious lines. Just because racial issues are sensitive does not mean we should keep them locked in the closet.

It is thus heartening to see that reaction from MM Lee’s retraction has been overwhelmingly positive.

Feed Me To The Fish

They'll say what they say but they'll do what they do. And never will the twain meet. "Staying Together Moving Ahead" and "Do more for lower income Singaporean" were promises made in the last election. So they up the GST from 5% to 7% (to help the poor?) and up mintsters pay to millions!

In this coming election, let's vote for honesty and integrity. Let's vote against arrogance, bribery, tyranny and contempt.

**** The Future Of One-Party Rule In Singapore <http://hir.harvard.edu/india-in-transition/divergent-paths>
Meng Chen, Harvard International Review

One variable that prevents large scale reform is the series of tactful policies that have been set up to limit the extent to which an opposition government can enact changes. For instance, it would be required by law to gain the president’s approval to withdraw from international reserves, suggesting it would not be granted.

The education system and meritocracy in government also tend toward maintaining the status quo, perhaps with minute changes.
