Ian Sherr, Wall Street Journal

A group of computer hackers on Sunday posted a document it claimed contains usernames and passwords for an Apple Inc. server, the latest in a string of brazen attacks that have compromised government and corporate websites around the world.

Matt Richtel And Verne G. Kopytoff, New York Times

Front pockets and purses are slowly being emptied of one of civilization’s most basic and enduring tools: the key. It’s being swallowed by the cellphone. New technology lets smartphones unlock hotel, office and house doors and open garages and even car doors.

**** Mind Your Bad English, Kingsley Amis 'Don’t Like It’ <http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/columnists/charlesmoore/8614844/Mind-your-bad-English-Kingsley-Amis-dont-like-it.html>
Charles Moore, The Telegraph

But what does shine throughout is Kingsley’s love of his language. He is exact, but not pedantic. Even when making minute points about the letter of the law, he is really talking about its spirit. Amis’s approach reminds me of the best sort of guide to a great city. He has plenty of learning derived from formal study, but he also knows the place like the back of his hand.

Perhaps we should just give up waiting for someone to come up with a formula for high-grade airline food and accept it in all its compromised glory.

**** What Is The Point Of The President? <http://theonlinecitizen.com/2011/07/what-is-the-point-of-the-president/>
Ghui, The Online Citizen

Is the role played by the President worth the $11.6 million spent on it? Why rely on the President’s curtailed and artificial powers as a check on the system when the opposition can do the same job at a much lower cost?

**** Why GST May Be Making Our Economy Uncompetitive <http://www.sgpolitics.net/?p=6962>
Ng E-Jay, Sgpolitics.net

What happens to the economy when the working class citizens of Singapore are increasingly being burdened by rising prices and GST which seems to keep going up after every election? They start to spend less. This means the small and medium enterprises that cater to their needs start to suffer a loss in profitability. The economy as a whole becomes less competitive because the purchasing power of the working class has been reduced.

**** Khaw Boon Wan Accidentally Proves PAP Is Profiteering From DBSS Land Sales <http://singstatistician.blogspot.com/2011/07/khaw-boon-wan-accidentally-proves-pap.html>
Thoughts Of A Singapore Statistician

Assuming that the DBSS developers have not inflated any of the costs/expenses, this implies that the high DBSS prices is because of the high prices developers are paying for the land!

**** Dear Mr Chan Chun Sing… <http://rachelzeng.wordpress.com/2011/07/04/dear-mr-chan-chun-sing/>
Rachel Zeng

Well Mr Chan I tried. My friends in civil society tried. So did my friends in the various opposition parties. We tried and were ignored so some of us went ahead and started being more visible with our feedback, some of us went ahead doing what we believe in without the government’s help since our different views and suggestions have been ignored and then what happened?

Police harassed us, agents followed us, PAP politicians complaining about us via mainstream media.

**** Chan Chun Sing So Far <http://rot.blogsome.com/2011/07/04/chan-chun-sing-so-far/>
The Rot Within

Does anyone really think that using language like ‘throw stones, cast doubt and tear down institutions’ is going to win over the people he needs to win over? The entire lecture reeks of the old-style PAP rhetoric which clearly doesn’t work anymore for the electorate, yet he’s still using the same old tricks.

Is legislation of a day off necessary? Do we need the law to force us to treat maids humanely? Are we so moulded by our fine city that we behave kindly only out of fear?

**** MG (NS) Chan Chun Sing Please, For Once, Shut Up And Listen <http://www.temasekreview.com/2011/07/03/an-open-letter-to-mg-chan-chun-sing/>
Alex Tan Zhixiang, The Temasek Review

You speak like as if that only the PAP has a monopoly of ideas and in-depth understanding of our society. If this has been so, would we see such deepening political division of our people? Is there any notion that only you as a PAP Elite Million Dollar Minister understand that we Singaporeans can never fathom? Your military experience has proven irrelevant to political leadership and you simply can’t lead without a disciplinary law the like of a SAF Act. We are not soldiers who will abide your every biddings and we citizens do not owe you, the government a living.

Stephen Bartholomeusz, Business Spectator

With Tiger already losing money before the grounding and now losing at least $1.5 million a day, would the Singaporeans be prepared to continue to support Tiger in this market knowing that it is likely to continue to experiences losses for a considerable period, given the extra and extreme brand damage that the grounding has inflicted?

Singapore Recalcitrant

The civilised thing for Mr. Tan Kin Lian to do, in the higher interest of the political unity of the people, is to withdraw from the contest so that it becomes a straight fight between Dr. Tony Tan and Dr. Tan Cheng Bock. Mr. Tan Kin Lian will win the gratitude of the people of Singapore in this way.

**** MCYS Clarifies Foster Boy Case <http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/1138852/1/.html>
Satish Cheney, Channel NewsAsia

As the child was born out of wedlock and since his mother is Malaysian, the boy is not a Singapore citizen.

The ministry also said the foster parents were also told from the start that the child must return to Malaysia together with his biological mother after her prison term.

**** The Facts According To Mohamed Isaac’s Foster Parents <http://theonlinecitizen.com/2011/07/the-facts-according-to-mohd-isaacs-foster-parents/>
The Online Citizen

MCYS gave the foster parents less than 24 hours notice on the 29th June 2011, that they will be taking Mohamed Isaac for repatriation. The foster parents met with ESM Goh Chok Tong for assistance and was advised to not let MCYS in when they came and not to hand Mohamed Isaac over. On 30th June 2011, MCYS came and we did as advised.

On the 1st July 2011, when the foster parents were asked to go to MCYS with Mohamed Isaac, the foster parents wrote to PM’s office, their last bestion of hope. PM’s office advised us not to hand Mohamed Isaac over to MCYS and to have MCYS call them if questioned. We informed MCYS and did as PM’s office advised. Unfortunately, there after PM’s office changed its stand and left it to MCYS. Then we handed over Mohamed Isaac to MCYS.

**** Singapore Inc Roars Its Displeasure <http://www.smh.com.au/business/singapore-inc-roars-its-displeasure-20110704-1gz2h.html>
Ian Verrender, Sydney Morning Herald

While Singapore's immediate anger appears to be directed internally, there will undoubtedly be repercussions at a political and diplomatic level as the island state has long believed that its national airline has been unfairly targeted by the Australian government.

That, however, overlooks the obvious. Tiger appears to have been run in a shoddy manner amid suggestions that passenger safety ranked rather low on the scale of importance.

**** Have You Had Enough Of "Kee Chiu"? <http://feedmetothefish.blogspot.com/2011/07/have-you-had-enough-of-kee-chiu.html>
Feed Me To The Fish

If this is a member of the "new leadership" that PM Lee has faith in to lead Singaporeans as "servants and not masters", then we are screwed. Big time! If idiots believe that alternative views are nothing more than "throwing stones" at PAP, very soon, 60% would become 40% and vice versa!
