**** Amazon: Got To Dance
by Heng-Cheong Leong, MyAppleMenu
<img src="http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/I/51F0G6KMKVL._AA240_.jpg" width="240" height="240" alt="Got To Dance" /> <http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FGot-Dance-M-C-Helldorfer%2Fdp%2F0385326289%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Dbooks%26qid%3D1178199098%26sr%3D1-1&tag=myapplemenu&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325>
After a few years of absense, I'm bringing back links to the Amazon store, where you can buy books (and many other things), and I got to get paid for a few dollars towards the web hosting bill for this web site.
So, for the month of May 07, I'm going to feature books that my daughter loves. (For your reference, my daughter will be 5 this year.)
First up, it's Got to Dance <http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FGot-Dance-M-C-Helldorfer%2Fdp%2F0385326289%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Dbooks%26qid%3D1178199098%26sr%3D1-1&tag=myapplemenu&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325><img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=myapplemenu&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=1" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" /> by M.C. Helldorfer, with illustrations by Hiroe Nakata. My daughter loves to dance, and she also loves stories, so this is a great combination.
School Library Journal: "This joyful book presents a high-energy portrait of a young girl. With her mother at work and her brother at camp, she has "nothing to do" and a case of "the sumertime blues" that can only be cured by dancing.
Booklist: The energy of the words is reinforced both by a swooping type design and Nakata's spontaneous watercolors.
Enjoy!

To some authors and critics, these moves amount to yet one more nail in the coffin of literary culture. But some publishers and literary bloggers &mdash; not surprisingly &mdash; see it as an inevitable transition toward a new, more democratic literary landscape where anyone can comment on books.

**** What Is The Signal? Where Is the Shame?
by Heng-Cheong Leong, MyAppleMenu
Tang Shangjun <http://www.straitstimes.com/portal/site/STI/menuitem.c2aef3d65baca16abb31f610a06310a0/?vgnextoid=7532758920e39010VgnVCM1000000a35010aRCRD&vgnextfmt=vgnartid:a5f9138b40e42110VgnVCM100000430a0a0aRCRD>, in Straits Times, writes: Decriminalising homosexuality does send a signal of approval... It sends a message that society now condones and justifies homosexual activity and hence we should all be more liberal in considering homosexual behaviour to be part of what humans are.
In a society where we do not criminalise adultery, coveting your neighbor's wife, coveting your neighbour's house (read: en-bloc sales), and not honouring your parents, what messages do we signal when we criminalise homosexuality behaviour?
The signal: we are no better than people who put up signs that says "No Dogs or Chinese Allowed". We are no better than people who make laws that forbid Chinese people from having Chinese names. We are no better than people who view women as objects and properties. We are no better than people who codified slavery in laws.
Where is the harm of homosexuality behaviours? Does gay acts kill innocent people? Does lesbian couples robs you of the right to property? Do you get less freedom just because gays lives next door?
If we allow smoking tables and non-smoking tables to stand side-by-side in our coffeeshops, what's the reason we cannot let gays and lebsian stand side-by-side with hetrosexual people in this nation of ours?
Shouldn't we all be ashamed?
