[R129 SL] Safety belt retractor problem

The driver's shoulder belt retractor in my '92 500SL has become very  slow 
to retract, and some times does not retract at all.  I'd like to get  at the 
mechanism to clean and lube it, but don't know how to access it.   Anyone 
have any experience with this problem?
