Dave,

Nice to hear, I love flying .
But the only times I fly is in a commercial airplane with a pilot in the
cockpit, or on MS flight simulator , where I now can take of and land
with a piper cup.
Take off with a Boeing is also no problem, but I have never succeed in
landing .
But when I am flying in a commercial plane, I now al the thing that's
happening,so that's is a good feeling, and you never know when it is
handy to use.

Flying Dutchmen came from the ghost ship that somewhere in the Bermuda
Triangle disappears and in the Caribbean was seen several times without
people.
And I did a test ; a Boeing takes off at 220 km/hour and 16 seconds, my
500 SL gives enough power to do almost the same.

So that's where my Flying Dutchmen is coming from.

But my mechanic say's , the oil is better , but you always have dirt
coming into the system . The dirt is the reason why it will go wrong.
Not the viscosity of the oil.
He say replace every 60 000 km the filter and oil.
So with 45000 miles it is time to do so.

Jan.

Hi Jan,

great news about your transmission. Thank you for sharing your
experiences with all of us. Perhaps it will prevent similar problems for
others on this list. Did you find out from anyone in your travels just
how often the transmission fluid and filter should be changed in the
"sealed" SL's? I asked my dealer about it and was told that changing the
fluid was unnecessary.

I have about 45000 miles on my 1996 SL600 now and can't help but think
that the oil and filter should be changed. I have always done it
regularly on other MB's that I've owned, but not sure what to think
about this "sealed" thing.

Cheers,
Dave
the Flying Cunuck- (Cunuck is slang for Canadian, and I'm also an
Airline Pilot, so I really do fly!)
