BerichtGood Day Fellow SL owners;

Have a little problem and wanted to see if anyone has a fix - convertible top goes up fine, but sometimes stops half way through going down, and I have to reverse & repeat the process - usually 1 or times - for it to go down.  Other than that - wonderful 1991 car with only 51K miles on it!

  It could be the end micro switch what is become loose, or one of the two alignment bolts are come loose.
  Also there is a possibility that there is no good alignment on the bottom stand of the window.
  Then on the motor there is one arm sliding from left to right and vice versa in a horizontal rail.
  If the window is come to low, there will be a extreme force on this rail what can make the noise.
  Most of the time is true this force a nut come loose, and give this sound.
  Do the alignment, put new grease in the side rails and fasten all the window nuts.

    Hi Jan,

    Since you seem to have a lot of knowledge of R129 doors and windows:  My drivers' side window has suddenly started making a loud metallic "clank" sound when I lower it, right at the moment when it hits the bottom of the track and is fully down.  No noise when it goes up, and it seems to be working OK other than the noise.  Do you have any idea what might be wrong?  And would you mind emailing me the same pictures you sent to Stefan on how to disassemble the door, so I can take a look at it?  I really hate to pay the big $$ to take it to the dealership if it's something I can fix without too much trouble!

          Stefan.` a Flying Dutchmen living in Florida.

          In the door there is no relay. Only one electrical engine and connection bloc for the power lines and a connector for the control of Right or left turnaround. Under in the door is an end switch, what has 2 functions, for the end cog , and for the targeting of the soft-top. The upper part of the window is limited by two 90 degrees angle  blades which are screwed in the door and whom you can change and aligned. In your case it can be that the window mechanism is drawn crooked because the limit plates are gone loose.The window sits then more fixed than that the engine can draw. You then must remove the door cloths and put the window by hand right in place and fixed the align plates to adjust. Or there is a possibility that the window has dried into the rails at the side and for this reason the window is stuck. Or there is rust between the connections on the connection block as a result of which the resistance is so high  the engine can draw no electrical flow. Clean  the cables separately, clean  the AMP connectors  and fasten  them. put some fat on it is no waste.

          Or as a last, simply the engine is faulty. You also can let someone else push the switch and then help the engine  to press the window by hand down , and looks what then is happening.

          The first 2 possibilities then has been immediately confessed.

          I have send al pictures about dissembling the door directly to you because we cannot send a lot of data over the list.

    In de deur zit geen relai.

    Alleen een motor en een aansluitblok voor de spanning en een stekker voor de aansturing rechts of linksom.

    Onder in de deur zit een eindschakelaar, welke behalve voor de eindstand ook bedoelt is voor de sturing van de softtop.

    De bovenkant wordt begrensd door twee haakse plaatjes welke in de carosserie van de deur geschroefd zitten en welke ja kan stellen.

     

    Bij jou kan het zijn dat het raammechanisme scheef getrokken is omdat de stelplaten losgetrild zijn, de raam zit dan vaster dan dat de motor kan trekken.

    Je zal dan de beplating moeten verwijderen en de raam handmatig recht plaatsen en de stelplaten afstellen en vast draaien.

    Of het vet is opgedroogd in de zijrailen en daarom zit de raam vast.

    Of er is oxidatie tussen de aansluitklemmen op het klemmenblok  waardoor de weerstand zodanig is dat de motor geen stroom kan trekken.

    Schroef de kabels los, maak de amp stekkertjes schoon en schroef ze terug. Afsmeren met wat vet is dan niet weg.

     

    Of als laatste is gewoon de motor defect.

    Je kan ook iemand anders de schakelaar laten indrukken en dan de motor helpen door zelf met de hand op de raam drukken om te kijken wat er dan gebeurd.

    De eerste 2 mogelijkheden zijn dan al meteen bekend.

      Hoi Jan, 

       

      Ik heb met veel genoegen al enige tijd de posts van de r129sl mailing list gevolgd. Met name de post waar je ons naar een duits website met video clips verwijst was erg handig... Ikzelf heb in april een 300sl AMG op een veiling gekocht hier in Florida (wij zijn hier in '92 gaan wonen), bijgevoegde foto.

       

      Ik heb een vraagje op de mailing list willen posten maar om de een of andere reden doe ik het verkeerd. Ik hoop dat je mij in de goede richting kan leiden: Van de een op de andere dag werkt het raam aan de passagiers kant niet meer. Dus automatisch kan mijn cabriolet kap ook niet meer open. Wanneer ik op het raam knopje druk hoor ik wel heel zachtjes een klikje in de deur (een relay mischien)?
