> Having gratefully received and digested the advice from list members, I'm still in a quandry as what to do. Apparently this is a very complex system that is not easy to analyze or repair. I recently visited my local M-B dealer, where I am on very good terms with the service manager. I presented to him my problem (ASR light comes on after a few minutes of engine run time and then stays on until ignition is switched off).

What year is your car ? The R129 SL used two different ASR systems. The
earlier system did not have an error memory, on the newer system you can
read out the error code which should help you to nail down the problem.
Common causes are

- battery failure (I had this on my car and it took me a long time to
figure it out)
- incorrect adjustment of the throttle linkage

If the ASR light comes on, the car will go into a "limp-home" mode where
you have to press the accelerator very hard making it almost
undriveable. Is your ABS light coming on at the same time ?

I do have the complete Mercedes documentation for the earlier system
(but it is in German)

Kind regards from Paris

- Matthias
