[R129 SL] Transmission won't "kick down"

[mid-co at ix.netcom.com]

My '95  SL 500 will only downshift one gear.

 Example: Applying full throttle at 30 MPH results
in a down shift from 4th gear to 3rd gear , instead
of a downshift from 4th to 2nd. 

Is there a "kick down" switch that might need to
be replaced ?
