[R129 SL] Electrical problems- update

You must remove the rain inlet covers which are settled left and right
from the wiper. They are screwed on the wiper side . You can put a
screwdriver true the holes which are covered like a cross. At the wiper
side you must completely remove the screw, at the sides you only have to
turn it once. Then you can push it to the wiper and it comes of. Then
you can see the wiper motor that's on the left side of the wiper, under
the edge of the windshield.
There is a bar between the wiper and the motor. The motor turns around
and the bar is mounted on a eccentric wheel and let the wiper go left
and right.
On the motor you can see the wires welded on the contact outlets. The
plate is fastened with three screws.
Follow the cable and it go's to the wiper control box. You can push the
connector holder to the left, and the connector comes out.
Do this before you unscrew the contact plate to be sure there is no
short circuit.
After the contact plate is come loose, you see the the contacts and
inside the house the contact rings.
Clean the rings and put new grease on it, or use the grease that is left
on the edge.
Clean the contact points mounted on the feeders, and if necessary, if
they are sharp pointed ,file them flat again.
Bow the feeders a little so that they are tensioned on the rings when
you remount the contact plate.
Take out the control box and dismantle the housing.
Take a fine sandpaper and clean the contact points from the relays in
the control box.
Put everything together again, and then you are for sure that this could
not be the reason anymore.
If the wiper then is working not like it should, the reason is the
electronics which is driving the control box.
You say that in normal speed it has no problems, then the control box
has nothing to do; it gives 12 volt directly on the motor.
If the contact rings or points are interrupted during labor, the wiper
stands still in the middle of your windshield.
So first I believe in the relays in the control box.
Second the up in your instrument panel, and maybe your switch on the
steer.
And like you said that the capacitor was not the issue, I believe that
the instrument panel itself is the reason, or the over voltage
protection relay.
I had it when I use my turn light, the wiper come on.
Strange the ASr and the backlights.
When I have time I will look if I can find something on the DVD.

Jan. Flying Dutchmen.

tomorrow morning the oil from the gear will be changed, and at the
evening I will know if I am lucky.

Well, I finally got around to replacing the 470 Mfd capacitor in the
instrument cluster, per suggestions from several list members.
Unfortunately I gained nothing except additional frustration. The ASR
light still comes on after about 1/2 mile of driving (it stays on until
I turn off the ignition switch). My windshield wipers still operate at
their own whim, with the intermittent and low-speed functions working
only occasionally (high speed is OK). Additionally, the lamp failure
indicator is also lit up. The right brake light is inoperative. Fuses
are OK and a new bulb does not solve this problem. I also cleaned and
re-tensioned the socket contacts
but continue to have the problem. (Does Lucas supply any of the
electrical components for Mercedes? I am reminded of the many years I
drove Jaguars and the old joke about why the Brits drink warm beer--
Lucas refrigerators!)

On the wiper problem- I removed the cover in the center of the firewall
(in the engine compartment- the one where the cabin filter is located)
and also the one to the right of it, (adjacent to the RF inner fender)
but still did not see the WS wiper motor. Do I have to get at it from
under the dashboard? How the heck do I get at the motor to clean the
contacts on the slip ring?
