[R129 SL] Soft top wont go down

Hi
My soft top wont retract on my 1990 500SL. I have checked the fuses to no 
avail. I feel there may be a problem with the gear select inhibit switch. 
When this problem occurred once before a jiggle of the gear selector in park 
fixed it. This time no amount of jiggle has any effect. Any ideas ? Any one 
know how you get at the gear select inhibit switch ?
