[R129 SL] ECU Performance Chips

Phil,
I changed the chip on my '95 SL500 with one from Performance Auto
Designs.  It was a simple 2-minute swap.  However, I don't think it was
worth the cost as I really didn't notice much change in performance.
YMMV, but I guess MB had optimized pretty well for performance in the
original chip.

Does anybody know if these performance chips really increase horsepower?
Is this really a low cost alternative to installing a RennTech kit?
