[R129 SL] fuel light blinking then serv engine light

Hi Everyone.

Has anyone heard of fuel light blinking on guage with fuel not low... then service engine light came on?   I did recently replace the fuel cap with a different year make... but I wouldn't guess the pressures would be any different... maybe I'm wrong.  On a 99 sl500.
