Victor here, the filter is under the hood (bonnet) On top just behind the top of the motor between the fire-wall and the back of the motor. If I recall it take three or four screws located on the back side of the cover, towards the passenger compartment or ass end if you will. Loosen the screws and the cover hinges forward, towards the front of the car. Before replacing the filters vacum out the compartment, I was surprised at all the airborne junk that was in there. I am going to change my thermostat in my 1996 SL500 so if anyone has done it 
please let me know the details. Also, I understand there is a filter in the 
cabin air path somewhere below the dash. I tried to find it the other day 
without success. Any help is appreciated.
