[R129 SL] Antenna mast problem

Re 1997 R129

So the antenna mast broke on my car.  Two days and 30 minutes after
discussing with Jabba, I get my mast.

Upon removing the old mast, the plastic leader thingy on the old one is
broken.  iow I can't get all the old one out, and therefore I can't feed the
new one in.

Does anyone know whether I can remove the antenna base thingy and take it
apart to retrieve the remaining piece of the old plastic thingy, thereby
making the thing work again?

Or do I need a whole new electric antenna?
