1. It is important to get the oil cap off. You have to twist it
like you mean it! If this does not work take a rag and a set of suitable
pliers. Put the rag on the cap center ridge, fasten the pliers around it
and use a little mechanical advantage!
2. Front end shimmy can be the result of (in order of likelihood) :
(a). Poor balance. Not many places do a really good job at balancing. I
have never gotten acceptable results at places that do not have a Hunter
Balance Machine. I generally prefer to have the dealer do it. I also
prefer the Euro clip on balance weights that one cannot get except at
the dealer. (b) A bad tire, (c) a worn steering damper or worn
suspension parts.
3. There were only a few 129 300SLs with 5-speed manual
transmissions imported. They are hard to find and very desirable. I
looked for a long time and could not find one.
