[R129 SL] 5 (or 6) speed manual trans conversion?

Dear list,
        I know that I would be considering the purchase of a 500SL with
more dedication if they were available with a manual transmission.  I know
the 300SL was available with a 5 speed (kinda rare, though, I would think)
but what I want to know now is if anyone is familiar with anyone who
converts the automatic transmissioned 500SLs to manual transmissions?  I
mean, if MB produced the manual in the 300SL, it must be possible to do, no?
