You may want to look at 

www.sciplus.com

they often have plastic fresnel screens for a 2 or 3 dollars. The
current offering is 7.25 inches by 10.25 inches, for $2 each. Well worth
tinkering with.
Smaller ones 2x 3.75 inches are good for long throw strobes, too.
