[LargeFormat] 5x7 Cameras - some feedback

Rich,
Too true, one can do many things with Sinar setups. My delight,
however, is escaping all that glitz and flash when I go afield. That is MY
time, time spent entertaining myself. If not the B&J, then I'll haul out my
Graphic View II or my Super. (yes, I know they're 4x5) There are times
when
it's just nice to get back to basics, kind of an escape from technology.
Then, too, I do have a practical side. I live in Washington State where
it is rumored to rain on occasion. I have much less guilt with an older
camera out in the tide for example than I would with a Sinar P. Sometimes
things go splash that aren't meant to! Sometimes, too, one does meet less
than savory types out in the boondocks. When you are a woman operating by
herself, a certain level of personal security is seldom optional.
As I have mentioned before to Clive, I am a bit of a throw-back,
strongly resisting the digital age and all of its doodads. My darkroom is
simple and straight-forward. I process by hand. My newest
enlarger is an Omega D2. I think that sometimes the dividing line between
photographer and equipment collector can be almost too fine to see. Just
be aware of the history of our art. Just how elaborate was Weston's
darkroom? Not a damn' bit! After all, no matter what we use to produce our
images, we must remember that it is our "vision", how we "see" that matters.
I cannot remember Hemingway and Steinbeck having length discourses about
their pens or typewriters.
Ok, Ok, I must rein in my mouth!!!
     . . . thus endeth the sermon from Mt. Eve . . .

Eve
