>Went to order some D76 for the Large Format Workshop today to be told by
>my suppliers in the UK that D76 has been discontinued. Can that be? Or
>does he mean that they as suppliers have discontinued stocking it
>because of low demand? I think not, because they were able to offer
>T-Max dev and ID11. Anyone out there in Large Format Land heard
>anything? Is this the end of mono photography as we know it?
On another list I am hearing wild rumours that Microdol-X is
dscontinued. It is all bunk. What I am personally finding is less and
less camera stores want to bother with darkroom supplies, or more
importantly they have less and less staff who know aobut darkroom
materials, so all over the place, not just the UK but also here in North
America, you have people making up stories that this or that or something
else has been discontinued.
What I do find is true, is enviromental regulations are growing a
bit wild anymore (good intentions run amok it seems) and shipping companies
are gleefully adding "hazard charges" onto materials, thus driving up the
costs. Because of this, some businesses no longer want to bother carrying
darkroom supplies, and they make up stories "oh, it's no longer available."
I think your guess that your supplier is not longer carrying D76
or stocking it is more to the truth.
I am really angry at all the garbage rumours about B&W film,
repalted suppleis, etc. I mean, Kodak inteh USA just built a brand new
manufacturing facility just for B&W films, and yet, for at least 5-6 years
now, I keep hearing that Tri-X is no longer made, tech pan is dropped, etc,
etc, etc. Sheesh!
Time to find a new supplier or swtich to Rodinol.
