[LargeFormat] to ringlash or not to ringflash

I have a question regarding flash on view camreas (I have not done any
digging about this topic on web or f32 site yet). What kind of flash I can
use? (I have canon speedlite 540 EZ, e.g., can I use that?) How do I attach
the flash to shutter assembly. And most importantly, in the absence of a
light meter, how do I set the exposure. It will be nice if somebody points
me to right url or give me adivce.
I have a 4X5, if that matters.
