[Jacob-list] General Feeding Question

Hi there,
I am sure you will get many useful responses in addition to mine. Which may or may not be useful. One thing I like about the Jacobs is that they do well on pasture and hay. But I have had trouble maintaining weight if the hay is not good nutritional quality. I send hay samples to my state lab for testing. This helps me decide about adding grain. I am having trouble keeping weight on my bred ewes so I have added grain. I would not assume parasites. I sometimes do fecal testing also to determine if that is the problem. I think it is hard to keep weight on in the winter especially if you live where it it is cold.
