Isn't there acute copper toxicity where a serious overload occurs rather quickly and chronic copper toxicity where a gradual build up in the liver occurs and is released in stress situations?

--Linda is correct. The copper level builds up in the liver and a blood test won't show excess copper during that time. Under stress (for instance, lambing) the copper is released and causes serious illness or death.
