I really appreciate the education base of the show at the AGM. I think it is great to get feedback from a Jacob breeder/judge - especially Ingrid Painter. I live an hour from her and I have never had the opportunity to show under her. There are so few shows where the judge knows what a good jacob is made up of. Too many breeds have been ruined by being bred specifically for the show ring and I would hate to see the jacob go down this path. You are so right Shannon. We must remember that our purpose is to preserve the American Jacob sheep with it's wonderful primitive characteristics.

We did talk about giving ribbons but decided not to. We wanted the shown to focus on the education part and not on the winning (or losing) in the show ring. Plus it would have been an added expense. A lot of people who get ribbons put them in a drawer and never see them again. Sometimes the desire to win in the shown ring encourages people to breed Jacobs to win rather then to preserve a primitive breed. I guess in this show the bucks stops with me. Sorry to disappoint.

While I had a very good time at the AGM, and learned an lot - we were dissapointed that no ribbons were given for the show. Why was that?

You live by writing your poems on a farm
and call that farming.

Dates and location will not be available for at least a couple of months…maybe longer, depending on how things smoothly things work out.
