My main machine is a Stewart "flexible shaft" - really a solid shaft in 
2 parts. It is driven by a 1/3 hp motor by a V-belt. The handpiece does 
heat up and they haven't made parts for the clutch in over 30 years, but 
I love it. Last year when faced with the choice of dragging my Jacobs 
(lawn sheep) down to the barn where the machine is or shearing them with 
my sunbeam shearmaster hand held on the deck, I opted for the handheld. 
Jacobs shear easily.   Libby
