[Jacob-list] Jacob Market lamb

Thanks for sharing that. I'd enjoy seeing your study written up. How old
were the lambs? I know you said earlier, but I can't find it quickly.

Do you EVER see much fat cover in Jacobs? We never see any in ours, even
older rams, but we are not pouring the grain to them (actually not
graining the rams at all). I have considered dry lotting some of my
freezer lambs to see if I can get them to a more marketable weight by
fall. One of the reasons is that I'd rather not having a bunch of cull
rams eating my grass :-) I am not interested in breeding for a heftier
Jacob! As far as fat cover, that's not something I really care about
getting. I'd be interested in hearing if you think you would be getting
more marbling in the carcasses, if they were butchered now - or what you
see when they are butchered. Will it be just a heavier fat cover, or fat
throughout the meat? Until I had Jacobs, I actually disliked the taste
of lamb. I only told Dave I liked it so he'd be okay with me buying
sheep. I love the meat we get from our Jacobs.

Did you do a feed to weight gain report? I'd be very interested in
hearing how they gained in comparison with traditional meat breeds as
well as a carcass dress out ratio.
