[Jacob-list] dewormers and anti-diarrheals?

Corid is specific to coccidia. We have never used sulmet, which is a sulfur drug. (I don't think that I am even supposed to have that on the premises.) I wonder if the sulfur drug could be wiping out enough of the good bacteria to be making the diarrhea worse?

  I've always treated for five days, but will go with ten on this girl and in the future. I treat the lambs individually in the spring and that seems to work well. I'm never that certain about putting the treatment in the drinking water, as the lambs don't seem to drink enough water. 
  So, if you don't treat with anti-diarrheals, you just have to wait for the scours to clear up on it's own? Actually, the scouring cleared up after I quit using the kaolin, so perhaps that gave the Sulmet a chance to work? Maybe?
  Any thoughts on Sulmet over Co-rid?

    I am going to vote for not using anti-diarrheals with the coccidiostat. Mst of the time with treating coccidias, you will need to treat for 10 days or so, wait 10 days and then repeat treatment for 10 days to clear up newly hatched eggs.

      My new ewe lamb came with a serious coccidia load and just went through a bout of diarrhea. She's fine now, after a five day treatment with Sulmet. 
      I also treated her with kaolin and was wondering if using anti diarrheals at the same as dewormers would interfere with the efficiency of the dewormers? Kaolin works as an absorbent and I believe that bismuth works also works to coat intestinal walls. Both supposedly bind to toxins. Would either also bind to whatever oral dewormer you are using? 
      I know, I have entirely too much free time if I'm sitting here worrying/wondering about this :-)
