To milk a ewe, sit her on her bottom, as for shearing, with her back against your legs. Lubricate your hands thoroughly with something such as udder cream (bag balm), lean forward over her and milk from that position. She will not struggle so much although she can still kick over the bowl in true cow tradition ! I have found that massaging the udder gently for a short while before milking helps to relax the ewe and promote milk let down. When it flows it really goes ! Trying to milk a ewe when she is standing up is hopeless as her instinct is to kick to prevent a lamb which is not her own from nursing.
