The one downside to the yahoo groups is that it may take several tries to join.  If you are trying to get new breeders or members, it's nice to have a more open membership- allow someone to join and see if they are "real" people & watch their posts, as opposed to some groups that deny anyone they don't already know.

Running private lists is fine- but not a good way to promote the breed.
