Here is my Jacob tale for the year. I sold a ewe that
was too big for us to handle last year and one of her
ram lambs went with her and we "wethered" him because
we all did not want them to mate. I heard 2 weeks ago
that the ewe had triplets! Now she and her son have 4
acres to roam but little if no supplemental food. They
just looked out one morning and there were 3 lambs
bouncing around. Luckily the wife fell in love with
the lambs so they were not furious.
I on the other hand flushed my 2 ewes before
putting them in with the ram and was sure they got the
right minerals, vitamins, salt, kelp powder, etc. Both
gave birth to singles this last week. Both were
complex births. Where is the justice?
I also wonder about color genetics because they
both have the same Dad but the heavily colored ewe had
a 15-20% color lamb and the light colored ewe had a
60% color lamb. It looks like they switched babies.
An interesting point is that the ewe that lambed last
year on March 11, lambed today March 12. Last year
the ram was put in 6 weeks earlier than this year. I
just guess she has a really strong preference on when
she wants to lamb!
