[Jacob-list] ear tags

I have not yet enrolled in the voluntary scrapie program (I may do it this year - then again, I may not). I have the tags that the state department of agriculture sends along with an applicator for free. I also did purchase the applicator and button tags from Premier for the voluntary program a few years back when I was first thinking about enrolling. The state vet came and told me that he thought a breeder shouldn't join until the breeder had his/her ewe flock established. I'm not there quite yet.

Which tags are those from Premier that you like? I found the button tags were abit harder to apply than the free plastic tags. I didn't realize that other tamper proof tags had a smaller hole. I had two of the small free tags pull completely through the ears yesterday, the day the sheep were to be picked up. Since the tag numbers were already on the health certificate, it was a long day 'walking the grid' to find the tags. Thought I was in a CSI drama :-) I really don't like ear tags, but I would like to hear which ones people have had the least amount of problems with.

Thanks
Linda
