We had a ram with massive horns that went through the
spontaneous bloody noses a couple of years ago and it
was quite startling! As many of the huge blood
vessels are near the base of the horns and these are
very near the sinuses it is understandable that things
could go bloody. He never had a bloody nose unless you
touched him to do hooves or something and then wow,
stand back. I tried the ivermectin for bots and it did
not work on the ram but once he got by the big growth
spurt betwee 9 mo. and a year, he has never had a
bloody nose again.
This year we seem to be going through lots of ewe
lamb side/top horn loss. I use the medical powder and
the spider webs and blue coat and those worked great.
Now that it is over 100*, the one who lost her horn
yesterday is still slowly bleeding and those 3 things
do not seem to be working. Any secret for hot
weather? Unfortunately, the flies are out!
