[Jacob-list] Mosquito battle (was: Good worming information)

Okay, I have to laugh here (a friendly laugh). I enjoy the bats in my area, provided that they stay at least 10 feet away. When they start flying, I go inside a buidling where they are less likely to go. With our problems with rabies (in NC), I can certainly respect someone not wanting bats near them (or fox, feral dogs, cats, etc.)
I don't enjoy the poisonous snakes, but if they stay "over there" and we agree not to bother one another, fine. (Though I did have a bit of excitement one year when I was spray painting spots on the ground where I needed to dig holes for my new fence posts: as I walked away from spraying a spot, the spot moved. Turns out I had spray painted on top of a pile of leaves. Under the leaves was a rather large snake. Fortunately, its response was to slither away up a tree (creepy). I wonder what his snake friends said when he showed up with liberal amounts of day glo orange paint on him?)
Now snapping turtles are another issue. Those things give me the heebie jeebies big time. I see one of those crawling across the pasture and it's off with their head (I love bush axes). Problem is, once the adrenaline rush is gone, I'm dealing with a dead snapping turtle that repulses me so badly, I can't even get close enough to it to pitch the carcass into the woods. I learned from experience that they have really, really stinky carcasses. I've smelled sweeter skunks....
I have a friend who feels the same way about possums....Isn't life grand?

I suppose this is an arena that we will choose to agree to disagree. Having been in public health as a physician, epidemiologist, and prevenative medical specialist for the last 17 years I've always adivsed folks to avoid certain creatures, both mosquitos and bats are on that list.
I've taken a beating for things that are far more simplistic, so I"m not surprised that there are those that think bats are good to have around, but for the sake of safety... I will always advise people to avoid both the mosquitos and the bats, neither are what I want around my home, children, or neighborhood.
What you do with beyond that is none ofmy business, for pete's sake.. live and let live.

evening, winging around, doing their job.
There is nothing you can do about it.
Not one thing.
Life is full of risks.
