My admittedly jaded take on this issue is that the breed registries tend to
have "cyclical pet issues" - some years its pink noses, other years its the
degree-above-horizontal position of the ears, and perhaps tail length is the
current Inquisitorial Interest ;-)

I prefer to let the breed create its own standard, which may or may not be
in agreement with the ones created by the humans who own them and have an
interest in high prices and limited supply ;-)
