My oldest ram Elijah has a tail and so does my newest ram Dandy, they
don't seem to get dirty at all but the
ewes do........(the ones that I purchased that have tail).  It is all a
preference.   If you like them keep them on if not take them off.   I
don't like them when they are real short like none at all then you are
open to all kinds of problems.  They need just enough to cover
themselves.
